MetaServer 3.1(32): Custom Models, Smarter Classification, Real Operational Gains
MetaServer 3.1(32), released in September 2025, brings a series of improvements designed to make document automation more intelligent, more efficient, and far easier to manage. Rather than a routine version update, this release introduces practical enhancements that directly support teams who depend on MetaServer for daily document classification, extraction, and workflow management.
Whether you are handling mixed document batches, working with complex forms, or managing large, multi-department workloads, the new capabilities help streamline processes, strengthen accuracy, and reduce manual intervention.
Smarter Document Classification for High-Volume Workflows
One of the most impactful additions is the updated Separate & Classify action, now integrated with Azure AI Document Intelligence - Custom Classification. MetaServer can automatically separate documents and assign the correct type with confidence scoring. These classifications appear visually in the Organizer through intuitive color indicators, green, orange, and red, so operators can confirm results immediately.
For organizations dealing with large, diverse document sets such as HR files, claims, or patient records, this eliminates a significant amount of manual sorting. When users correct a misclassification, MetaServer can feedback into the model, improving accuracy over time. It is a practical step towards continuous learning without adding complexity for the operator.
Support of the “Check (US)” Prebuilt Model within the Extract Text (Azure AI Document Intelligence) rule
MetaServer now supports the new, prebuilt “Check (US)” model within Extract Text (Azure AI Document Intelligence) rule. It can also be used for non-US checks. Like all other prebuilt models, there is no training required from the user’s side. You can just map your required fields with the readily available form fields
The only limitation with non-US checks, is that the MICR line is not automatically detected. Instead, you find it within the full text using conventional MetaServer rules.
Tailored Data Extraction with Azure AI Document Intelligence - Custom Extraction Models
Businesses often manage documents that don’t fit neatly into predefined templates. To address that, MetaServer now supports Custom Extraction Models within Azure AI Document Intelligence.
Users can build and train extraction models by uploading a small set of sample documents—five or more is sufficient—and marking the fields they want to extract. Once the model is trained, fields can be mapped directly into MetaServer workflows.
Some populare examples are:
- Vehicle leasing documents
- Shipping forms
- Legal contracts or litigation files
Required modules: CB-META-AZDI + CB-META-AZCE
The strength of this update lies in its accessibility: no development background is required. Teams can refine models over time with incremental training and adapt quickly to new document variations.

Secure SharePoint Connectivity with Modern Authentication
Microsoft has phased out basic authentication, and MetaServer now fully supports OAuth 2.0 for SharePoint. This ensures secure, compliant, and uninterrupted operation for cloud-based environments. The new setup requires a one-time re-authentication, supported by clear instructions within CaptureBites’ documentation.
Improved Workflow Control for Multi-Department Environments
MetaServer introduces two enhancements that help organizations manage shared infrastructures more efficiently:
- Email whitelisting: Only approved senders are processed, reducing noise and supporting compliance policies.
- Import limits per subfolder: Prevents a single department from consuming resources in shared folder structures, ensuring fair distribution and predictable performance.
These updates are particularly helpful for businesses where multiple teams scan and submit documents into a centralized system.
New Centralized Controls for Admins, Less Manual Setup
MetaServer now centralizes two key admin tools:
- Core management is now centralized in the Admin Client’s Server tab. Admins can adjust how many processing cores are used across various actions without configuring each separately.
- Azure Resource Management is also centralized—define an Azure key once, and use it across all related actions. This drastically reduces setup time and simplifies future updates.
More Insight with Better Monitoring
From CPU usage to document queues, MetaServer 3.1(32) gives IT administrators greater visibility into system performance and usage trends:
- CPU usage tracking with automatic logging when usage exceeds 100% for extended periods
- Real-time system metrics for memory usage, disk access, disk capacity, and document queues
- Visual indicators to highlight performance thresholds (e.g. CPU, memory, and disk usage)
- Proactive alerts help identify and resolve issues before they disrupt processing
- User-specific document reservations, offering insight into workflow load distribution
These improvements are especially valuable in high-volume environments, where maintaining performance and stability is essential.
Enhanced Experience from Front to Back-End
Small improvements can make a big difference in daily work. Here are a few highlights:
- Personal preferences (like font size and layout) are now saved per user, not per device.
- Faster document list loading speed and filters now get applied to the actual document list for the current user
- The “Rejection” feature during Validation has been expanded to also be used as a “positive” action, using a green icon. This can be helpful to send certain documents to a special validation step or to update a custom classification model. This is also visualized in the workflow diagram.
- More accurate barcode reading (up to 20% faster) with better recognition at multiple angles.
- Prebuilt and custom AI models now display helpful information, like expiration dates and field types.
Bug Fixes That Keep Everything Running Smoothly
MetaServer 3.1(32) also includes a long list of behind-the-scenes fixes—ranging from better handling of XFA files and embedded email images, to correcting CSV formatting, improving data exports, and fixing erratic errors in Azure integrations.
These updates ensure MetaServer keeps running smoothly across every kind of use-case.
Why This Update Matters
MetaServer 3.1(32) is more than just an incremental upgrade—it’s a strategic step forward in intelligent document processing. With new tools for automated classification, custom AI model training, and enhanced server management, this version gives users the tools to create workflows that are not only efficient but also scalable and smarter over time.
